Steam heating systems are probably the oldest centralized heating system in the United States. Steam has no moving parts and dates back to the 1870’s. Steam is still quite predominate in the Northeast….especially in larger cities.
Often called inefficient… steam systems when properly installed, maintained, vented and insulated can be very comfortable and nearly as efficient as many modern day systems.
Many people think that steam systems by nature always bang or “Hammer” as a rule… not so if properly piped and cleaned. I have dozens of systems that I have brought up to there original shape, heat fast, heat even and are Quiet.
Thinking about tearing out your steam? Give me a chance to pump some life back into your Classic system before you break out the sawsall.
Thinking about replacing your steam boiler? Use care on who you choose to install. Steam done right takes time and following boiler mfg. instructions is very important.
Copper for supply or header piping is a real no-no on steam The dissimalar metals and the properties of copper do not mix with steam. Imporperly piped steam boilers will give you poor performance, higher fuel bills, shorter boiler life and can hammer to high heaven.
